本書的編寫工作始於 2019 年，此後不久，COVID-19 疫情爆發，隨處都看得到有關勤洗手的警告，商店裡的消毒劑、肥皂和衛生紙更是銷售一空，髒污和衛生已不再只是個有趣的主題，它們至關重要。
