文字是對插圖中所描繪情況的闡述，簡短且具重複模式，有助孩童學習正確的語言形式，時而穿插有趣的單詞、押韻的詞組，配合插圖營造出美好的歡樂氛圍，有利於語言實驗和創意發揮。 書中主角是氣球街 5 號公寓的居民們，當中每個動物都有自己的獨特興趣和優點，如：老鼠在炒蛋裡找帽子，猴子烤蛋糕，貓錄下鳥的聲音，黑豹收集植物標本，青蛙族寫說唱，蜘蛛家族組管弦樂隊，以「飛克塔琴」、「上低音揚琴」和其他各種非常怪異的樂器演奏。 敘述者是一種難以辨識的生物，讀者要認出來是項挑戰。每個角色各異，每個動物都各自有興趣所在，但他們都喜歡聚在一起，故事以他們各自在白天所做的事情所展開，而在共同度過的晚上結束，期間他們展現自身才能並加深友誼。 本書具認知、教育和藝術價值。 （M.M.）
