Published by Albin Michel Jeunesse, the book J’ai vu un magnifique oiseau (“I Saw a Beautiful Woodpecker”, published by Dwie Siostry) by Michał Skibiński with illustrations by Ala Bankroft and translated by Lydia Waleryszak has been nominated for the Prix Sorcières 2021, the most important French award for children’s book authors.
The Prix Sorcières have been awarded since 1986, currently by the Association des Librairies Spécialisées Jeunesse (ALSJ, Association of Bookshops Specialising in Children’s Literature) and Association des Bibliothécaires de France (ABF, French Librarians’ Association). Books are nominated in 6 categories. I Saw a Beautiful Woodpecker is a candidate for the ‘Carrément sorcières fiction’ category (Definitely magical fiction).
The book I Saw a Beautiful Woodpecker has previously been recognised in the 2020 OPERA PRIMA BolognaRagazzi Award.
