A translation of the children’s book Smakologia (“Tasteology”) by Ola Woldańska-Płocińska has been published in France. The publication of the book translated by Nathalie le Marchand was supported by the Book Institute as part of the ©POLAND Translation Programme.

Smakologia

Translated into French, the title of the book reads Mangeons bien, mangeons malin! In France, it was published by the distinguished publishing house Casterman, which specialises mainly in French and Belgian comics and children’s literature.

In Tasteology, Ola Woldańska-Płocińska decided to tell younger readers about food – both about tastes and its effects on our bodies, as well as its cultural and historical contexts. The author demonstrates that what and how we eat daily affects both our health and wellbeing as well as the planet we live on. The book is a kind of continuation of the author’s previous works, such as Zwierzokracja (“Animalocracy”) and Śmieciogród (“Garbage Garden”). The former talked about animal rights, while the latter talked about litter and ecology.

Ola Woldańska-Płocińska was born in Kalisz in 1985. She graduated from the Faculty of Graphic Design at the University of Arts in Poznań (UAP), where she worked as an assistant in the Laboratory of Packaging Design from 2010 to 2020. She lives in Poznań, has two sons, and creates illustrations, posters, and logos on a daily basis. She has designed and illustrated a multitude of books written by others (i.e. Anna Onichimowska and Przemysław Wechterowicz) as well as has written several of her own, such as Smakologia, Zwierzokracja, Śmieciogród, and Marchewka z groszkiem (“Carrots and Peas”), among other titles.
