This year, the Leipzig Book Fair will not be held in the traditional in-person format. However, the Book Institute, together with the Leipzig branch of the Polish Institute in Berlin and German publishers, has prepared four online events as part of the “Leipzig liest extra” festival, which started yesterday.
Our programme of the event:
28th May
Meeting with Jakub Małecki on the premiere of the German translation of Jakub Małecki’s Rdza (“Rost”[“Rust”], Secession Verlag, translated by Renate Schmidgall). The open online meeting will be hosted by Hans-Christian Trepte.
29th May
Discussion on the poetry of Adam Zagajewski and its reception in Germany (the premiere of Poezja dla początkujących [“Poetry for Beginners”], Carl Hanser Verlag GmbH & Co., took place in May). The meeting, hosted by Bernd Karwen, will be attended by literary scholars: Hans-Christian Trepte and Krzysztof Cieślik.
29th May
Discussion on the German themes in Leopold Tyrmand’s wartime biography in connection with the German publication of the novel Filip (Frankfurter Verlagsanstalt) translated by Peter Oliver Loew, with the participation of the translator and Tyrmand’s biographer Marcel Woźniak.
30th May
Discussion on the dangerous relationship of the DDR (East Germany) and the Polish People’s Republic with Markus Meckel as host, historian Tytus Jaskułowski and journalist Filip Gańczak.
