A translation of Michal Witkowski’s novel Fynf und cfancyś (“Eleven-Inch”) has recently been published. The translation by William Martin was supported by the Book Institute as part of the ©POLAND Translation Programme.
The novel Eleven-Inch, as reads the title of the English translation of the book, has been published by Kolkata-based Seagull Books.
In Eleven-Inch, Michał Witkowski returns to his favourite characters from the legendary Lubiewo (“Lovetown”). Michał and Dianka leave Poland to seek happiness in Vienna, which seems to be the fulfilment of their dream of a Western European paradise. However, the access to this paradise leads through a men’s toilet, which is the easiest place to make money.
Witty humour, the horror of everyday life, and the indiscreet charm of the 1990s. Eleven-Inch marks the author’s return to his literary roots.
