Today in Tartu, Hendrik Lindepuu Kirjastus, an Estonian publishing house run by the eminent translator and the Transatlantyk Award winner Hendrik Lindepuu, celebrates its anniversary.
The 50th Polish book was published by Hendrik Lindepuu Kirjastus back in May – it was Czesław Miłosz’s Ziemia Ulro (“The Land of Ulro”). Since then, Hendrik Lindepuu has already published a selection of poems by Adam Zagajewski and Olga Tokarczuk’s Bieguni (“The Flights”).
“Dear Hendrik, please accept from me personally and from the entire Book Institute team our warmest congratulations on your anniversary. We wish you good health, inexhaustible sources of inspiration, and perseverance in your masterly search for the most beautiful things in Polish literature, as well as the emotions and words with which you translate this beauty into Estonian by your pen. We look forward to the next ‘fifty’ and pledge our full support,” wrote the Director of the Book Institute Dariusz Jaworski in a congratulatory letter.
Since Estonian publishing houses rarely publish Polish literature, Hendrik Lindepuu established his own one-man publishing house in 2002 to publish translations of Polish works into Estonian. The translations of Polish literature into Estonian, published by Hendrik Lindepuu, are reviewed in all major Estonian media.
