Translator Adrian Cvitanović received the prestigious Iso Velikanović Award for the best translation of 2020. Cvitanović translated Gustaw Herling-Grudziński’s Dziennik pisany nocą (“Journal Written at Night) into Croatian. The publication of the book was supported by the Book Institute as part of the ©POLAND Translation Programme.
The Iso Velikanović Award is granted by a jury composed of media representatives and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia. The chairman of the jury, Dinko Telećan, emphasised that Herling-Grudziński’s Journal Written at Night is one of the most important diaries of the second half of the 20th century in European literature.
Adrian Cvitanović, the translator of the book, has to his name the translations of the works of Czesław Miłosz (Ziemia Ulro [“The Land of Urlo”]), Leopold Tyrmand (Cywilizacja komunizmu [“Civilasation of Communism”]), Jerzy Giedroyc (Autobiografia na cztery ręce [“Autobiography for Four Hands”]), Marek Hłasko (Piękni dwudziestoletni [“Beautiful Twentysomethings”]), and Magdalena Tulli (W czerwieni [“In Red”]). All the aforementioned translations were created with the support of the ©POLAND Translation Programme ©POLAND.
