The tenth seminar for foreign publishers will last from Thursday to Saturday, during which the Book Institute will present the most interesting phenomena on the Polish publishing market to publishers from all over the world. This year, representatives of 17 publishing houses from all over the world, selected from over 150 applications, will visit Kraków.
The seminar will begin on Thursday with a short presentation of the Book Institute and the programs it implements. Over the course of three days, guests will have the opportunity to learn about the most interesting new releases in recent years – Paulina Małochleb will introduce them to Polish non-fiction literature, Michał Koza will talk about the most important phenomena in Polish prose, and Marcin Wilk will present Polish classics.
Above all, however, the seminar will be an opportunity for publishers from Poland and abroad to establish contacts, as B2B are an important part of it.
“The task of the Book Institute is, among other things, to promote Polish literature abroad. We make every effort to ensure that books by Polish authors are published in other languages, so that they cross cultural boundaries. We have many tools to achieve this goal. One of them is the Publishers’ Seminar, to which we invite representatives of foreign publishing houses so that they can familiarize themselves with the book offer from our country. Moreover, the exchange is mutual: the invited receive information on Polish literature, and we collect information on foreign publishing trends,” says Grzegorz Jankowicz, director of the Book Institute.
In addition, foreign publishers will take part in meetings with Artur Domosławski, Stanisław Łubieński, Małgorzata Lebda, Maciej Płaza and Weronika Murek, and Maryla Szymiczkowa – the duo Jacek Dehnel and Piotr Tarczyński – will guide guests around Krakow in the footsteps of crime novels about Professor Szczupaczyńska.
The seminar will be attended by representatives of seventeen publishing houses: Manshorat Al-Jamal/Alkamel Verlag (Lebanon/Iraq/UAE), Siltala Publishing (Finland), Turbine (Denmark), Rámus (Sweden), Verlag Klaus Wagenbach (Germany), Die Andere Bibliothek/Aufbau (Germany), Marsilio Editori (Italy), Scribe (Australia), Open Letter Books (USA), Yedioth Books Ltd. (Israel), Prosak Forlag (Sweden), Metaichmio Publications (Greece), Columbia University Press (USA), MTO Press (USA), Les Argonautes Éditeur (France), Koppernik (Netherlands) and Absynt (Czech Republic/Slovakia).
The guests will also take part in this year’s Transatlantyk Award Gala, which will take place next Friday.
The seminar will end on Saturday with a visit to Kraków bookstores.
