Translation of Wiesław Myśliwski’s “Treaty on Shelling Beans” has been published in Ukraine. The translation by Natalia Sydiaczenko was supported by the Book Institute as part of the ©POLAND Translation Program.
The novel was published by Samit-Kniga.
The narrator of the Treaty in a monologue addressed to a mysterious visitor takes stock of his entire life. To what extent did he influence his own fate, and to what extent was it shaped by traumatic experiences from childhood and the twists and turns of Polish history. Myśliwski’s novel is a kind of meditation on the role of fate and chance in human life. “Treatise on Shelling Beans” was awarded the Nike Literary Award 2007 and the Gdynia Literary Award 2007.
A year ago, also translated by Natalia Sydiaczenko and supported by the ©POLAND Translation Program, a translation of another novel by Wiesław Myśliwski, Widnokrąg (published by Samit-Kniga), was published in Ukraine.
